    <title>2009 Poster Contest Winners</title>

            <p>Bartow, FL  &#8211; Wind Power, horse power, solar power, knowledge, water from Clouds, C02, bubbles, recycled trash and manure; these are just a few of the award-winning,&#8220;out of the box&#8221; ideas for future fuels that Polk County students came up with for the 6th Annual Polk Transportation Planning Organization&#8217;s (<span class="caps">TPO</span>)  poster contest. Students created a future transportation vehicle or process and described the fuel they will be using in the year 2030. The students were also asked to keep in mind the lack of fossil fuels in the future and keeping the environment green.             <p>If you have suggestions for improving the transportation system in Polk County and would like an opportunity to be involved in transportation decision-making; the Polk Transportation Planning Organization (<span class="caps">TPO</span>) provides a forum for public participation &#8212;called the Citizen&#8217;s Advisory Committee (<span class="caps">CAC</span>).</p><p>The <span class="caps">CAC</span> meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 413 of the Polk County Neil Combee Administration Building, located at 330 West Church Street in Bartow.  If you are interested in serving on the <span class="caps">CAC</span>, membership applications are available on our website at: www.polktpo.com, or by contacting <span class="caps">TPO</span> Staff at 534-6783.</p>

            <p>A committee of the Polk Transportation Planning Organization (<span class="caps">TPO</span>) and Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (<span class="caps">MPO</span>) will meet on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. to discuss Transportation Regional Incentive Program (<span class="caps">TRIP</span>) and Regional Multi-Use Trail (<span class="caps">RMUT</span>) priority projects.  The meeting will be held in the Growth Management Conference Room, Polk County Administration Building at 330 West Church Street, Bartow, Florida.</p>

    <title>Polk TPO Schedules Community Workshops</title>

            <p>The Polk Transportation Planning Organization (<span class="caps">TPO</span>) is developing a multimodal long range transportation plan for the year 2035.  This planning effort, which has been named the “2035 Mobility Vision Plan,” will identify future transportation needs and present a vision for how transportation investments and policies will guide and promote the long term growth plan for Polk County.  The 2035 Mobility Vision Plan (<span class="caps">MVP</span>) will be developed to ensure the overall transportation system will operate safely and successfully into the future and include road, transit, bicycle, sidewalk (pedestrian), and multi-use trail projects.</p><p>The Polk <span class="caps">TPO</span> is required by federal and state law to update the Long Range Transportation Plan every five years. This ongoing effort is an update to the currently adopted 2030 <span class="caps">TRIP</span> Plan and will be complete in December 2010.</p><p>At this point in time a draft plan is complete and the <span class="caps">TPO</span> is seeking input and feedback from the community.
